Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Traditionally Juneteenth is known as a cultural event that celebrates the emancipation of slaves in America in 1865. Brought to Kansas City in 1980 by Horace M Peterson III, founder of the Black Archives of MId-America INC, Juneteenth is an annual heritage celebration and platform that celebrates the emancipation of enslaved Africans in America and provides the backdrop to pay tribute to the founders of our community.

Make a donation to a black business- Black businesses are important in our community, providing interquel roles in our economy and also in our culture. You can learn lots of rich history in a black business learning how they become in businesses and what the driving forces are in why they do what they do. Making a donation not only shows your monetary support but your emotional support as well.

2. Volunteer your services – Giving back your time is not only valued but needed. We need whatever it is you have to give!

7. Teach at an inner city /urban school- We need more teachers and caring facility to help under privileged youth. We need you to be the difference. We need more teachers who actually care to make a change. The rate of recidivism for blacks are at an all-time high and the rates are climbing.

8. Use your resources- whether you are a podcaster, blogger business owner, etc. use your platforms to speak out against the injustices and or support a business or initiative started by blacks of African Americans

9 Read Books from black authors. – When you read books from black authors it helps you depict the hatred and disrespect that went on for decades

18 Learn the culture – We are simply misunderstood. We are not BAD people in fact most Afro Americans have forgiven our oppressors.

19 Speak up against crimes against blacks– Blacks are targeted and mistreated and many ways even though slavery is over. From the many injustices in the country like the George Floyd case, to the many unarmed men and women who have been wrongfully murdered by policemen. There have been numerous amounts of hatred targeted at black people from the police departments for decades.

20. One of the greatest gifts you can do to celebrate Juneteenth is spreading awareness and love to those around you. Providing your own community with love and support regardless of if they are a different skin color than you, are by far the greatest celebration of Juneteenth there can be.
