Halloween in Kansas City is kind of a big deal…. From the great Haunted Houses like, the BEAST and the Edge of Hell, it has always been a Kansas city tradition to scare the hell out of you during the Halloween season. Those haunted houses and parties and events are fun but they may start to tax your budget, and your bank account. so, what is there to do that families can enjoy for FREE? Take a look at the list we put together especially for children and families who don’t want to break the bank but still enjoy a great time for Halloween in Kansas City and surrounding areas.

 

  1. Historical Hauntings 

Shawnee Town Museum

when: Saturday October 29th

hours: 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

 Admission: FREE (1.00 Donation to support Shawnee schools)

Historical Hauntings is a real scream! Family friendly evening of trick or treating tractor hayrides, farmstead house tours, photo ops, and costume contests.

 

2. Child & Parent Book Discussion: Spooky Edition

 when : October 18, 2022
Location: Indian Creek Library – 16100 W. 135th Street
Hours: 7 to 8 p.m.
Admission: FREE

Parent read William Allen White award nominee Scritch Scratch by Lindsay Currie with kids followed by a group book discussion. Kids get a FREE copy of the book when registering. This is most appropriate for kids in third to fifth grade.

Snack provided.

 

3. Cornutopia 

when: October 15-17th

Admission: FREE

Location : Power & Light District

This is a family-friendly event with lots of fall flavors and activities. Expect carnival rides, bounce houses, pony rides, pumpkin carving, art, live music and more. BBQ, beer, spiked cider, funnel cakes and more are offered by vendors.  Vendors of course you will have to pay for their services.

 

4. Hocus Pocus Escape Room

 when : October 15, 17 and 18, 2022
Location: Indian Creek Library – 16100 W. 135th Street

Hours: Varies by day – Noon to 4:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Admission: FREE

Teens and adults are invited to explore the abandoned house of the Sanderson sisters. Once inside, participants use clues and curiosity to find their way out. Feel free to dress in Hocus Pocus-themed costumes.

 

5. Monster Mash

when : Friday, October 21, 2022
6:30pm – 8:00pm

This after-hours teen event is FREE, but registration is required.

Enjoy an evening of dancing, crafts, and treats. There is also a costume contest.

 

 

6. Halloween on The Lawn at The Legends Outlets

Enjoy a special movie night during Halloween on The Lawn.

This FREE event should get you into the Halloween spirit from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 22.

Attendees can enjoy a fortune telling, face painting, Halloween photo ops, candy, offers from participating stores and restaurants and a movie screening of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Halloween costumes are encouraged. Those 12 and older are asked not to wear masks that fully cover the face.

Parking is FREE

MOVIES SHOWN IN OCTOBER

October 15: Halloweentown

October 22: Nightmare Before Christmas. This movie starts at 6 p.m. and coincides with Halloween on the Lawn. See more details below.

October 29: Coco

 

 

7. Trick-or-Treat Trail

when : October 28
5:30 to 8 p.m.
 Location : Olathe Community Center – 1205 E. Kansas City Rd.

admission : FREE Trick-or-Treating fun on a half-mile trick-or-treat trail through Stagecoach Park. Admission is FREE.

8. JamBOOree

When :October 28, 2022
Location: Heritage Park – Olathe, KS
Hours: 5 to 8:30 p.m.
Admission: FREE

JamBOOree is a boo-tastic family event has great outdoor Halloween fun, including trick-or-treating, photo opps, live animals and more.

Get dressed in costume and join October 8 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Heritage Park
