AfroKC Festival 2025: A Celebration You Don’t Want to Miss

Y’all, if you’re looking for a way to kick off your Juneteenth celebrations with culture, community, and so much flavor, let me put you on to something: AfroKC Festival 2025 is happening Saturday, June 7 from 6PM to 10PM at Unity Temple on the Plaza, and it’s about to be a whole vibe.

AfroKC isn’t just another festival—it’s a one-day experience that brings the African and Afro-diasporic communities together in the heart of Kansas City. It’s where music, dance, fashion, food, and culture meet, and where we celebrate who we are, where we come from, and where we’re going.

Here’s What You Can Look Forward To:

🎶 Live Performances That Move You
Expect electrifying dance and musical performances from some of KC’s most talented artists and creatives, including Stephanie Gordier (KC Dance Network), Myself Embodied (M.E), and Dream. The energy will be contagious, so come ready to clap, move, and vibe.

👗 A Fashion Showcase Full of Culture and Confidence
We’re talking bold prints, traditional fabrics, and modern designs that celebrate African heritage in the most stunning way. Featured designers include Zeretta Young, Onetta Johnson, and Suzanne Wanja—trust me, the runway is going to be a moment. I had a chance to meet Suzanne and even interviewed her on a post and her energy is Absolutely amazing! Her line Couture is so elegant. Shes able to show her creativeness through her clothing and I’m obssesed with the fabrics she chooses!

🍽️ Authentic Food That Feeds the Soul
If your love language is food (like mine), prepare your taste buds. You’ll find West African jollof rice, Afro-Caribbean jerk chicken, East African samosas, and creative soul food fusions. Come hungry! There will be plenty of vendors to choose from.

🛍️ An Art & Fashion Market That Highlights Black Creatives
Support local vendors and artists bringing Afro-Chic fashion, handcrafted goods, textiles, art, and more. Whether you’re shopping or just soaking in the creativity, you’ll leave inspired. This an amazing oppurtunity to meet new people network with creatives and get in the room! TRUST ME YOU DONT WANT TO MISS OUT ON ALL THE GREAT HAPPENINGS AT AFRO KC

🗣️ Cultural Connection + Community Impact
AfroKC also shines a spotlight on local entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and cultural contributors who are shaping KC’s future. There will be a youth stage, storytelling circles, and hands-on cultural workshops to deepen the experience. This what KC Needs, we need to come together and support the culture, its only right.

💡 Giving Back
This year’s proceeds will go to HealthEd Connect, an incredible nonprofit working to improve health and education in underserved communities. So just by showing up, you’re making a difference.

🏆 AfroKC Legacy Awards
This special ceremony honors people right here in our city who are preserving and uplifting Black culture through their work. It’s a powerful reminder of how important local leadership and grassroots impact truly are. Im looking forward to hearing about the great stories about such great legendary people.

Let’s Show Up and Show Out

If you’ve been looking for a reason to get dressed up, eat good, and celebrate our culture—this is it. AfroKC is more than a festival, it’s a moment of pride, power, and purpose. Grab your friends, wear something bold, and come experience the joy, history, and rhythm of the diaspora. Suzanne from Tivona World needs your support. This is huge, legendary.

I’ll be there soaking it all in, getting behind the scenes content and I truly hope to see you too!
