“Frozen” Comes to Life at Kansas City’s Starlight Theatre
Frozen at Starlight Theatre: A Magical Night Under the Stars in Kansas City
If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing Disney’s Frozen come to life outside the world of animation, you’ve got your chance this week at Starlight Theatre in Kansas City. From August 5–10, 2025, this Broadway-quality performance is lighting up the stage—and I had the absolute pleasure of seeing it with my friend Joe (@eatfoodkc)!
Whether you’re going with friends, taking the kids, or just looking for a magical summer night out, Frozen: The Musical is a must-see for all ages. Here’s everything you need to know about the show—and my personal take on why it’s totally worth the experience.
A Kansas City Summer Tradition: Broadway at Starlight
Starlight Theatre is a gem in Kansas City. As one of the largest outdoor theaters in the country, it brings Broadway shows to the Midwest in a way that feels intimate, warm, and full of hometown pride. And when I say it was the perfect summer night? I mean it. The skies were clear, the crowd was buzzing, and we were surrounded by Kansas City folks ready to be swept away to Arendelle.
I went with my friend Joe, a true Kansas City foodie whose Instagram @eatfoodkc is full of delicious local eats. We grabbed snacks beforehand (because snacks are necessary) and settled in for a night of music, magic, and a few happy tears.
To top it all off, I ran into my girl Sharon (@djdimondiva) and her beautiful family—talk about a full-circle moment! You could feel the community love in the air. Kansas City always shows up.

What Makes Frozen: The Musical So Special?
This isn’t just the movie on stage—it’s a full theatrical experience with jaw-dropping vocals, dazzling costumes, and brand-new songs you won’t hear in the film. Of course, fan favorites like “Let It Go,” “Love is an Open Door,” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” are in the show, but the added music gives the characters even more emotional depth. I loved the duet “I Can’t Lose You” between Elsa and Anna—it almost brought me to tears.
The visual effects? Pure magic. From Elsa’s icy staircase to the glowing Northern Lights, everything looked like it came straight out of a Disney dream. The production value was top tier, just like something you’d expect to see in NYC.
I enjoyed seeing a lot of fathers spend quality time with their daughters! It was truly a sight to see. I won’t give it away but you just stay for a little surprise at the end of the show it just put the cherry on top!
Local Love: KC Talent on Stage
One of the best parts? Two Kansas City girls are in the cast! Shoutout to Hailey Kenyon (Young Elsa) and Bellamy Kelly (Young Anna)—they absolutely held their own on stage and made all of us locals proud.
Also, Kevin Hack, a Kansas City native, plays Hans. It’s always amazing to see hometown talent on such a major stage. You could feel the audience cheering a little louder knowing KC was reppin’ hard.
The Pre-Show Fun (Don’t Skip This!)
We got there early enough to enjoy the Frozen-themed pre-show activities, and I totally recommend it if you’re bringing kids—or if you’re just a big Disney fan like me. Here’s what we checked out:
-
Photos on Elsa’s throne (yes, I did that and no, I don’t regret it)
-
Olaf chalk art
-
Temporary tattoos and crown crafts
-
“Coronation Day” activities
Everything was super interactive and fun. The energy of the crowd before the show even started was joyful, especially with all the little girls dressed in Elsa and Anna costumes.
Parking, Seating & Pro Tips
✅ Parking is FREE with your ticket (shoutout to Starlight for that!), and you can upgrade to premium parking for closer access.
✅ Bring a blanket or light jacket—even in August, the breeze can cool off once the sun sets.
✅ Concessions were fully stocked and fast. I recommend grabbing your snacks during pre-show rather than intermission to avoid the lines.
✅ Arrive early to take it all in and get good photo ops!
Who Should See Frozen?
If you’re wondering if Frozen: The Musical is just for kids—the answer is absolutely not. I went as a grown woman with another adult and still had the best time! It’s touching, hilarious, and visually stunning. But it’s also the perfect outing if you’re looking for:
-
A family-friendly night out
-
A girls’ night with a little sparkle
-
A magical date night under the stars
-
Or a chance to simply relive the joy of a classic Disney story
Final Thoughts: Worth Every Minute
There’s something about live theatre that hits different—and when it’s in an outdoor venue like Starlight, it just feels more personal. Watching Frozen surrounded by Kansas Citians, seeing local talent on stage, and running into familiar faces like Sharon (@djdimondiva) reminded me why I love this city so much.
If you’ve been on the fence about going, take this as your sign to buy the tickets. Whether you’re going with friends, taking the kids, or treating yourself, this show delivers on every level.
Every single time I have gone to Starlight theatre I have been amazed at the hard work of the cast and I enjoyed watching everything come to life!
